Your Surface Choices for Countertops

Countertops can add a lot to a kitchen, which is why it’s important to make the right choice. Changing the look of your kitchen can be easily accomplished with a new countertop. However, there are so many options to choose from. Most likely your budget and the look you desire will dictate much of your decision. However, there are a few things you should know before making a final decision. Some of the choices you may have in mind might include; granite, quartz, soapstone, Corian, laminate, or stainless steel.

Luxury Kitchen Countertops

When it comes to choosing your kitchen countertops there are many options to select from, including granite, quarts, stainless steel, and laminate.

Granite Counters
Granite is a natural stone and is an upscale and classic look for any kitchen. Granite is durable and easy to maintain. You can get granite in many beautiful colors. Granite is a porous stone, so you will want to seal it both upon installation and about once a year to keep the stone beautiful and well-maintained. Household cleaners should not be used on granite countertops. Cleaning granite with soap and water is your best option.

Quartz Counters
Quartz, also a natural stone, is another beautiful choice for a kitchen. Quartz is an abundant stone, and also comes in many different colors. Quartz is quite stunning in a kitchen, however, it is a softer stone, and is not porous, so keep in mind that it is not scratch resistant. It is also not as resistant to heat as granite or some other natural stones.

Soapstone Counters
Soapstone is another beautiful, natural stone. Soapstone is very durable and looks lovely in a kitchen. Soapstone is great overall a great choice, but the color selection is limited.

Corian Counters
Corian has been a common choice for kitchen countertops for many years now. Corian is not a stone, but rather it is made of acrylic. Corian is very easy to maintain and is available in many different colors. Corian is durable in that it is burn and scratch resistant. The main drawback to Corian is the cost.

Laminate Counters
Laminate is a very affordable choice in kitchen countertops. Laminate comes in a multitude of colors. Downfalls to a laminate countertop are the scratches and chips you are likely to experience. Unfortunately, laminate countertops are not easily repaired.

Stainless Steel Counters
Stainless steel is a growing trend in kitchen countertops. Stainless steel is an attractive option, and is also very sanitary and stain resistant. One of the drawbacks to choosing a stainless steel countertop is the price tag. Also, keep in mind that with stainless steel, there are not many other colors or design options available.

  1. I think there is a lot to say about quality, I bought less than 2 years ago a whole new kitchen and it looks amazing, the style, the design, the colors combination, everything. Recently I noticed that the hinges in my kitchen cabinets are noisy and the doors don’t close properly. That is why I strongly recommend to pay less attention to the looks and to make sure to chose good quality furniture so that you will not find yourself disappointed after such a short period as I did.
