With the abundance of homes for sale on the market it can be hard to make yours stand out. There are several remodeling options you can choose from, but the two most popular include putting in a new kitchen and master-bathroom.

a new kitchen and master-bath remodel.

When it comes to kitchen and bathroom remodels, there are several options, such as new flooring, cabinets, and countertops and a variety of finishes for each.

Popular flooring options in the kitchen are ceramic tile, stone tiles, and laminate. Both ceramics and natural stones come in a variety of sizes and colors, plus they can be laid-out in countless design patterns. Laminates can come in varying sizes; however, it typically comes in planks and installed with a tongue and groove connection. Wood flooring isn’t often recommended in the kitchen or bath as it is susceptible to water damage and in the bath, moisture from steam can also cause warping.

Cabinets can either be purchased preassembled or built to custom fit your space. There are numerous finish options for cabinets, with raised-wood panels and laminate being two of the most commonly chosen. Wood is nice because it comes in so many different patterns and natural colors, plus a light pine or alder wood can be stained to give a custom look or to match furniture.

When it comes to putting in new countertops, there’s no question that granite is the best option. Not only does granite look phenomenal, but it also comes in dozens of readily available colors. The only setback to installing granite slab if you plan on moving is its associated cost. A less expensive alternative is using granite tiles; this will give you your kitchen the desired effect, without putting a heavy dent in your pocketbook. Laminate and ceramic counters are also less expensive options.

For many, a complete kitchen and/or bath redesign is not necessary. If you feel that your flooring or countertops are in good enough condition that it still offers some appeal, you may just want to replace fixtures and lights with more modern ones. Similarly, if your cabinets are in good condition, you may choose to save money by refinishing them, such as painting or sanding and re-staining, rather than replace them all together.
